Citroen Grand C4 Picasso
Number one on our list of best 7 seater cars is the C4 Picasso. The model was first introduced in 2006 in 2 forms, the standard 5-seater and 7-seater Grand C4 Picasso. Both were a huge success for the French brand, and in 2013, they went through radical re-design, making them really stand out from all their rivals.
On top of the unique styling, the Grand C4 Picasso offers the sublime comfort level and generous equipment levels you’d expect from a premium brand. Interior space is plentiful, especially for the middle 3 seats and thanks to its range of frugal petrol and diesel engines, running costs are low. In fact, the 1.6 BlueHDi diesel engine can generate over 70mpg with a maximum of only £20 road tax.

Ford S-Max
The Ford S-Max is slightly smaller than its Galaxy’s bigger brother but still seats 7 with space and comfort. Behind the wheel, the S-Max is as good to drive as any of its rivals. Its handling is sharp and precise, its ride is smooth and its variety of petrol and diesel engines are all punchy and efficient.
The S-Max has always been an attractive car, even from its initial launch back in 2006, which makes it one of the most desirable used 7 seater cars, although there have been a few slight makeovers through the years. The second-generation model came along 3 years ago and kept the positives that made the first car such a success. Basic Zetec S-Max starts from as little as £9,000 and features parking sensors, Bluetooth, voice control and alloy wheels all as standard.

Vauxhall Zafira
The Vauxhall Zafira is an excellent value for money family 7-seater. Starting from as little as £6,300, the Zafira offers the same level of space and comfort to rival any of its competitors as well as a similar range of economical petrol and diesel engines. On offer is a 2.0-litre diesel unit capable of over 46mpg and a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which can generate over 44mpg. The usual array of features is available throughout the range, including sat-nav, leather seats, cruise control, Bluetooth and alloy wheels.

Nissan X-Trail
The Nissan X-Trial took over as the brand’s only 7-seat option in 2014, replacing the extremely popular Qashqai+2. The X-Trial is clearly based on its 5-seater sibling, with similar exterior looks, an identical interior and the same range of generous spec levels. Sat nav, parking sensors, 19” alloy wheels, Bluetooth, and climate control are standard on all models except entry Visia specs. Add reverse camera, leather, heated seats and panoramic roof to higher spec versions.
One of the best used 7 seater cars you can get, under the bonnet there is a choice of 1.6-litre petrol engine and 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre diesel units. The smaller diesel is the most economical, producing over 55mpg when attached to a manual gearbox.

Toyota Prius+
The Toyota Prius+ is the only 7-seater on our list which is available with only one engine and an automatic gearbox. The engine is an exceptional 1.8-litre petrol-electric hybrid unit which can produce over 68mpg and £0 road tax. Being a petrol hybrid also means the Prius+ can travel through the new ULEZ free.
Just as the case with its smaller 5-seater sibling, the Prius+ is very generously equipped. Toyota’s Touch multimedia system, Bluetooth, reverse camera, alloy wheels and climate control are all standard. Sat Nav, leather seats and panoramic roofs are available in the range-topping models.
